Time Traveler

Worm hole

Greetings from 2018! This is Greg, and I have traveled back in time here to January 2012 to remedy a minor little cosmetic glitch that cropped up when I changed my one-article-a-month format over to a "post 'em when you write 'em" format.

You see, it was important for me to keep my file-naming format the same, since otherwise any links to my articles out there in cyberspace would be broken. Now, since I was posting an article each month, I named the files accordingly.

For example, the article posted in June 2018 is 1806-bulls.htm.

The first two digits are the year, the second two are the month. Simple, right? But now I am just posting a bunch of articles throughout the year with no regard for the calendar month. So, now those second two digits simply represent the number of the article during the year. In other words, instead of referring to that article as the article for June 2018, now it's just article #6 for 2018, and on the Articles page that lists all the articles for 2018, it's listed as 2018/#6, rather than June 2018.

Since I've always posted the first article of the year in January, this new numbering system is still logical and consistent. For example, the January 2018 article is 1801-gold.htm, and yeah, it's 2018/#1, or the first article of 2018.

It's logical and consistent for every year except 2012, that is. I posted my very first article in February, not January 2012. In other words, my first article (1202-its-here.htm) doesn't correspond to 2012/#1. There is no 2012/#1, and so things were just "off."

Well, as an Aspie I can't abide it when things are "off," and hence this trip back in time to post something to occupy the place of 2012/#1 so the numbering system will make sense for 2012. Problem solved.

Oops, gotta get back to 2018! Bye! (Oh, and just in case you're wondering, the Rapture won't happen on September 23, 2017.)

*Note: As of December 2023, I have finally relented and gone back to referring to articles by the month in the usual way. In spite of my best efforts, I never succeeded in breaking out of the one-article-a-month routine, and I know I never will. So be it.
